Year-Round Utility Drives Laser Device Success

Mitigating sun exposure after treatment with aesthetic laser therapies is important because skin needs time to heal. Two weeks of avoiding sun and/or using high-SPF sunscreen is usually the recommendation. As a result, aesthetic practitioners know that there tends to be a ‘laser season’; an ideal window of the year where one safely books sessions because the sun is less intense. Or conversely, a season where solar intensity is considered too great to safely treat with an aesthetic laser.
Advalight (Copenhagen, Denmark) has been continuously developing and marketing its ADVATx dual-wavelength laser system as a top solution that is safe and gentle enough for the medspa setting but delivering results that make it ideal for any aesthetic practice. Its versatility is demonstrated by its 25 FDA- and CE-cleared indications, and an ability to treat virtually all skin types.
According to Amanda Madrigal, RN, owner of Epion Aesthetic and Wellness (Hillsboro, Ore.), a key advantage of the safety profile and lack of downtime is that one can treat year-round. “While I do advise my patients to avoid going out in direct sunlight for 48 hours, patients can use sunscreen and/or a hat and go outside and take a walk. They do not have to hide completely or for very long like with other laser treatments,” she explained.
Being able to treat throughout the year is especially important when one considers the nature of the medspa business, Ms. Madrigal pointed out. “We can safely treat darker skin, and depending on the situation, treat someone just before a major social or life event,” she explained. “Consider when these events often occur. Many weddings, vacations, proms, etc. take place during times of year in which people would typically avoid laser treatments, so being able to treat independent of that keeps the revenue stream flowing more consistently. Last month we had a world class beauty pageant contestant come in for treatment before flying out for a competition the next day. When I was going to Hawaii, I did not have to worry too much about when I had my own treatment. It is easy to see how on top of the safety, comfort and results, the convenience is extremely appealing to our patient base.”
ADVATx features two wavelengths. With water as its chromophore, the 1319 nm wavelength is renowned for collagen remodeling. Its 589 nm wavelength is a gold standard for vascular indications and has recently been shown to reduce porphyrins,* making it a potential weapon against inflammation and inflammatory skin conditions.
“We typically schedule packages of three to six sessions depending on the skin concern and can do simple ‘skin refreshers’ on one end, thinking of regular sessions – 40 to 60 minutes for a full face – almost as one might view getting your teeth cleaned regularly, with more treatments needed for acne or melasma** as well as other conditions. Our ability to harness this versatility all year is part of what makes the return on investment (ROI) with ADVATx so strong,” she said. “Between the safety, comfort, results, versatility and ROI, it is an absolute powerhouse.”
